Lewis J. Altfest, President of L.J. Alfest
& Co., Inc., has been a financial and investment advisor for over 25 years. Dr.
Altfest established this company in 1984 after two years as an un-incorporated business.
Previously, he was a general partner in Lord Abbett & Co., a Wall Street firm with
over %5 billion in mutual fund and pension assets under management. Dr. Altfest served as
Director of Research and Chairman of the Investment Strategy Group for the firm. He began
his career on the accounting staff of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. Dr. Altfest has a
Ph.D. in Finance and an MBA in Economics. He is a Certified Financial Planner, a Chartered
Financial Analyst, a former practicing Certified Public Accountant and a Personal
Financial Specialist. He served for five years on the Board of Directors of the National
Association of Personal Financial Advisors, the nationwide organization of fee-only financial
advisors and was formerly a member of the board of the New York chapter of the
International Association for Financial Planning.
Dr. Altfest is a member of the Finance Faculty of the Lubin School of Business of Pace
University. He also serves as Consulting Director of the Financial Planning and
Investments program for the New School for Social Research. He is co-author with his wife,
Karen C. Altfest, of Lew Altfest Answers Almost All Your Questions About Money
(McGraw- Hill). In addition, he is co-author of An Introduction to Business
(Harper) and numerous articles on financial planning and investments. He is the financial
columnist for Medical Economics, selected for his expertise in financial strategies
for physicians. Dr. Altfest has appeared on major television, radio and cable business
news shows (CNN, CNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC). He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal,
the New York Times, Investors Business Daily, Fortune, Money, International
Herald Tribune, U.S. News and World Report and Bottom Line. He was named
one of the "Best Financial Advisors" in the United States by Worth Magazine
in 1996, 1997 and again in 1998. Medical Economics listed him as one of the
"Best Financial Advisers for Doctors". He is listed in Whos Who in
Finance and Whos Who in America. |

Karen C. Altfest is Vice President of L.J.
Altfest & Co., Inc. She previously originated and was Coordinator of the Certified
Financial Planner Program at Pace University in White Plains, New York. Dr. Karen Altfest
teaches "On You Own Financially" and "Basic Budgeting" courses for
financial novices at the New School for Social Research, where she is Director of the
Financial Planning and Investment Program along with Lew Altfest. Dr. Altfest is a board
member of the Metro New York Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and
of the Northeast Region of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors. She is
serving as chairperson of the 1999 Northeast/MidAtlantic NAPFA conference for fee-only
financial advisors. Her book, Lew Altfest Answers Almost All Your Questions
About Money (McGraw-Hill) which she co-authored with Lew Altfest was named one of the
best financial planning books by Money Magazine. Dr. Karen
Altfest specializes in money issues for women and conducts educational seminars for recent
widows and divorced women. She also has led seminars for employees regarding company
sponsored retirement plans. She has appeared on CNBCs "Money Talk",
"Power Lunch" and "Money Tonight," NBCs "Nightly
News," CNN-FN, WBIS Morning Show and CBS "This Morning." She has recently
been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Money, Readers
Digest, New York Daily News, Fortune, Smart Money, Financial
Planning, Working Woman and the Los Angeles Times. Worth magazine
named her one of the "Best Financial Advisors" in the United States in 1996,
